Our Campus

Groundwork for Hope International School, located in Gardnersville, Liberia, began in 2007.  Our Liberian partners found and leased a piece of land with old school buildings, then hired Liberian teachers and staff. In 2008, Hope International School doors opened to 400, pre-K through 8th grade, students. Over the years, through the partnership of Liberian staff and stateside donors, Hope International School has grown and currently provides:

  • Educational opportunities for nearly 1500, pre-K through 12th grade, students.

  • Employment and stability for over 70 dedicated Liberian educators and support staff.

  • Night school for adult community members.

  • On-site vocational opportunities.

  • An updated computer lab and a hands-on science lab.

  • A school medical clinic.

Bird's Eye View of Hope International School

Only 60 percent of children in Liberia have access to an education due to the prohibitive tuition costs of private schools and lack of government-funded public schools. At Hope International, students receive a tuition-free education and pay only minimum fees for uniforms and basic school supplies.

Hope International School and the land it sits on became available for purchase in 2016. We had been leasing it for the previous 9 years. Through the generosity of a handful of Hope Project partners, we were able to purchase both the school and land and start some much-needed improvements.

In 2018, renovations began on existing structures. The first completed, 3-story building has 15 classrooms, a bathroom on each floor, an administrative office, and a teacher prep room. Through the generosity of two major gifts, we constructed a second 3-story, 12-classroom building that was completed in 2023.
