The very least you can do in your life is to figure out what you hope for. And the most you can do is live inside that hope. Not admire it from a distance but live right in it, under its roof.

Happy Holidays Friends of Hope,

I remember the moment this photo of a boy playing with his friends in this roofless and nearly wall-less home was taken. I also remember wondering if he lived amongst the remains of this home. This is one of the most profound things I’ve experienced in Liberia: grandparents, parents, and children living in places where seemingly there was no way of living. Though many of these families face tremendous hardships, they are in fact living inside of Hope. Not admiring from a distance but living right in it, under its roof.

The joy, the connection, the Hope is a shock and a teacher to me every single time. This community has taught me more about living inside of Hope than anything else I’ve known.

I see it amongst all of you as well. The generosity you extend to provide educational opportunities for nearly 1500 students and stable employment for over 70 Liberian teachers, staff, and administrators. Opportunities you make possible for students who would be unlikely to go to school otherwise is Hope. It provides the literal roof and, when much else is gone, the Hope remains.

We could really use a robust season of giving to meet the needs of the school. In order to meet our budget, we need $25,000 in generous expressions of Hope. Are you able to share a holiday gift as we all continue to live in Hope together?

As is our tradition, we are sharing a recipe for Banana Crumble Cake. This simple crumble cake recipe is called “Hope Cake” in Bolivia. Gather with your loved ones to sift, mix, bake, and share during your holiday festivities. Click here for recipe.

This holiday season as we gather with those we love, may we live right in it…the complexity, and the joy. May all of us find ourselves housed in Hope.
